I've got a 2016 Wrangler that's developed a clunk when I shift into reverse and a vibration that shows up around 70 km/h, and after some reading I'm fairly sure it's the front driveshaft or at least the U joints. So I did the sensible thing and got three quotes. First shop, near the dealer, told me the whole shaft needed replacing and quoted something close to AED 4,000. Second guy, a small garage in Mussafah, said just the joints and wanted around 800. Third one was somewhere in between but couldn't tell me what brand parts he'd use. Now I have no idea who to trust and I'm worried the cheap guy is cheap for a reason. I started looking for Affordable driveshaft repair near Khalifa City because a friend mentioned a place out that way, and honestly I just want someone who will actually inspect it, tell me if it's joints or the shaft itself, and not just swap everything. Has anyone dealt with a driveshaft clunk before? What did it actually turn out to be and how much did you pay in the end? Also is there any way to tell if a shop is using decent U joints versus the cheapest ones that will fail in six months? Not trying to cheap out, just trying not to get ripped off either.

Spread like that usually means one shop is replacing the whole shaft and another is only doing the U joints. If the joints are loose or dry, that's a cheap fix. Ask each shop to show you the play in the joint on the lift before they quote a full shaft.

My JK had the same clunk into reverse and a vibration around 70. It was just worn front U joints, not the shaft. Mine was a few hundred dirhams in parts and labour. The shop let me wiggle the joint by hand and the movement was obvious.

The cheap quote isn't automatically a trap, but ask which brand of joints they're fitting. Spicer or Moog is what you want, not unbranded ones with no grease fittings. And if they won't tell you the brand, that's the answer. Also get the warranty length in writing.

Did the clunk start after any lift kit or bigger tyres, or just out of nowhere? And is the vibration there under acceleration only or even when coasting? That would help narrow down joint versus shaft, and I'm curious what the middle quote actually included.

Vibration at 70 km/h can also be driveshaft balance, a worn slip yoke, or even tyre issues, not only the joints. A clunk into reverse points more to slack in the joints or the yoke splines. Have them check the transfer case output seal too while it's under there.
