I swear, the summer here is just brutal on car batteries and my 2016 RX350 is proving that point in the worst way possible. It started about a week ago when I noticed the engine was cranking just a little bit slower than usual, you know that kind of lazy turnover sound that makes you pause for a second before it actually fires up. I didn't think much of it at first because the car had been sitting for a couple of days while I was away for work, so I figured it just needed a good drive to recharge everything. But then yesterday morning I went out to go to the grocery store and the car wouldn't start at all. Just a single click and then complete silence, not even the dash lights coming on properly. I managed to get a jump from my neighbor and it started right away, but I could tell the battery was struggling because the idle was a bit rough and the headlights seemed dimmer than usual. I drove it around for about forty minutes hoping it would charge up, but when I parked and turned it off, I didn't even dare try to restart it because I had a feeling it would just die again. So now I'm in this situation where I need to get the battery replaced as soon as possible, but I really don't want to pay dealership prices because I know they're going to charge a fortune just for the battery itself, plus labor and programming fees that seem completely unnecessary. I've been looking online for options around the ICAD area since I work nearby and it would be convenient to just drop the car off and pick it up after work, but there are so many garages and battery shops that it's honestly overwhelming to figure out which one is actually reliable. Some places advertise really cheap prices, but then I read reviews saying the batteries died after a few months, so you end up paying twice in the long run. Other places seem more professional but their quotes are almost as high as the dealer, which defeats the whole purpose of going independent. I just want a middle ground where I can get a good quality battery that's the right specification for my Lexus, with proper installation and maybe some basic testing to make sure the alternator is fine, all at a reasonable price that doesn't make me feel like I'm being ripped off. I was chatting with a friend who lives in the area and he mentioned something about Affordable Lexus battery replacement in ICAD, but he couldn't remember the exact shop name because he said it was a while ago and he's since sold that car. So I'm hoping someone here has recently replaced their Lexus battery in that area and can give me a solid recommendation. I'm particularly concerned about getting the right type of battery because I know these cars have start-stop technology and they need an AGM battery rather than a regular flooded one, otherwise the system won't work properly and you'll get warning lights on the dash.I've also heard that you need to reset the battery monitoring system after installation, otherwise the car will think the old battery is still installed and it won't charge correctly, which could lead to the new battery failing prematurely.
